The new Tesla Model Y can be the number one choice for many drivers on the market. Those who want a car that appeals to their extended family and has a fully electric motor now have a great option. And now it comes with a more accessible price tag.
The Tesla Model Y is taking its rightful place on the roads this year and they already started producing a good number of units at Tesla’s state-of-the-art Giga Texas plant in Austin, Texas, USA.
What's New in 2021?
Using the chassis, interior, and powertrain of the smaller Model 3, the 2021 Tesla Model Y draws attention with its large interior volume, the optional third row of seats, and SUV style, which are much more popular in the automotive market.
2021 Tesla Model Y offers you more power than any SUV needs, thanks to Tesla’s double electric motor system. While the base model comes as a rear-wheel drive, there is an all-wheel-drive option in higher versions.
The New Tesla Model Y has a huge price advantage over its more expensive rivals such as the Audi E-Tron or the Jaguar I-Pace. With its 330 miles long-range, this all-electric SUV deserves a chance.
Interior
In the interior, the lack of ostentatiousness compared to non-EV rivals such as the Mercedes-Benz GLC or Volvo XC60 gathers the lovers of simple design around the New Tesla Model Y.
Tesla didn’t change their view in terms of interior design and they believe that simplicity is always the best way to go. When you see the interior of the Model Y, you will instantly understand that this is a Tesla.
In the minimalist design, there is nothing other than a huge 15-inch screen in the middle. In the true Tesla fashion, no other instrument clusters are used. The all-glass roof adds an airy ambiance to the cabin. However, optional third-row passenger seats are also among the major improvements offered on the Model Y.
The 2021 Tesla Model Y does not come with the Falcon Wing doors that come with the larger Model X. The overall design of the interior is exactly the same as the Model 3 sedan. Quite simple and unpretentious, this interior and console design is hard to get used to when compared to traditional car designs.
Engine, Transmission, and Performance
The new Tesla Model Y manages to stand out from other SUV-style competitors with its long-range offered as standard, as in Model 3. And it transfers all the power it has to the rear wheels.
For those looking for a little more handling and driving pleasure, the introduction of the all-wheel-drive system in the New Tesla Model Y is a breath of fresh air. The all-wheel-drive test car, which reached 0 to 60 miles in 4.4 seconds, gives us a clue about the power of the New Tesla Model Y.
Due to the use of the chassis and powertrain of the Model 3, which has smaller dimensions than itself, the New Tesla Model Y is very successful in terms of sharp road feeling. However, when we apply the same test on rough roads, the fact that the road defects are felt too much causes us to receive negative points.
Range
The new Tesla Model Y’s long-range version offers a range of 330 miles. If you choose the performance model, this range rate drops down to around 300 miles. However, the performance version manages to stand out from its competitors with its 20-inch wheels, lowered suspension, 155 mph top speed, and Track mode.
Infotainment and Connectivity
You can do all the things you can do on a tablet computer via the 'huge' touch screen in the middle of the very simply designed center console of the new Tesla Model Y.
You can access all vehicle and road information on this screen, which comes with special software that will not distract you while driving. The basic safety and driver assistance features in the new Tesla Model Y include standard automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection and active lane-keeping assist.
The 2021 Tesla Model Y comes with the very popular autopilot and it is called the semi-autonomous driving system. Self-parking features and driverless removal of the car from the parking lot are also on the list of options.
The biggest development on the Tesla cars side is that Bitcoin is now offered as a payment option when purchasing Tesla brand cars.
Where Are The Tesla Model Ys?
Initially, Tesla Model Y was going to come out in 4 different configurations. Since then, Tesla canceled one of the RWD configurations (long-range) and decided to build 3 setups only. And now they are ready for delivery!
You read that right, The new Tesla Model Ys are ready to be delivered to their owners at the new Tesla Giga Texas facility. Keeping them in the new factory came with a whole different challenge though.
Tesla’s Giga Texas plant is still under construction and the whole factory is being built bit by bit. This means that while the new cars are parked there, the construction was going around them and the Model Ys needed the best protection they can get.
For this unique challenge, they partnered up with Coverking and ended up covering their newest inventory with the best technology on the market. Tesla loved the covers so much that they partnered up with Coverking to produce their original covers.
