Ram filed a trademark for its upcoming electric truck, the pickup will presumably be named the Ram 1500 REV.

 

Finally, we got a hint about the imminent reveal of the first-ever Ram electric pickup truck. The United States Patent and Trademark Office accepted a new trademark for a Ram truck called Ram 1500 REV.  Previously known as Revolution, the truck will debut in January 2023 at the Las Vegas CES, but only in concept form. Going from Revolution to REV was not a huge leap, but the new abbreviated name may hold more significance than the original romantic one. Aside from keeping the connection with the “revolution” name, REV may also hint at the electric nature of the vehicle.

Car enthusiasts are already familiar with the numerous abbreviations that designate the various forms of electrification, BEVs and PHEVs for battery electric and hybrid cars, and EREV or REEV for range-extended electric vehicles. So, REV was maybe chosen to indicate that the upcoming RAM EV still has a small gasoline engine that can extend the car’s range on long trips when electric charging is not readily available.

The brand relies on this particular feature to set its truck apart from its main competition, namely the Ford F-150 Lightning and Chevrolet Silverado EV.

The trademark was filed on December 23, 2022, under the category of land vehicles, namely, passenger trucks. The name REV is pretty indicative, but at the same time, it gives the brand enough flexibility to develop its new offering in a number of ways. All we can do for now is wait for the upcoming CES, where we will have the full story.
