Fisker Ocean First Look

A prototype of the Fisker Ocean battery electric SUV was on display at the MWC 2022 as a signal for its European debut. The new electric SUV is the brain-child of the legendary car designer Henrik Fisker, and from what we saw, the designer has pulled many rabbits out of the hat.

The car will be manufactured by Magna in Austria, with the first cars expected to be ready for delivery later this year. The ocean looks pretty futuristic for an SUV, although we can see much of land rover influences here and there, especially the narrow headlights and tail lamps. Still, it’s a big car, rolling on 22-inch wheels, its size certainly gives it the robust look that all SUVs need.

Maybe the best feature in the ocean’s exterior is the customizability, with the push of a button you can lower all the windows including the rear, giving you a jeep like experience, the manufacturer calls this special feature “the California mode”

the ocean’s interior reflects the sleek design of its exterior, with the most prominent feature being the huge touch screen in the middle panel, a rectangular 17.1 inch 21:9 aspect ratio, that can pivot depending on the situation, portrait for driving and landscape for relaxing. With a bit more control buttons than what we usually find in other concept EVs, giving the driver easier control over the climate, mirrors and parking functionality.

The seats are extremely comfortable, with a nice two-spoke steering wheel in front of them. Most the interior materials are from recycled plastic, strengthening the environmental awareness that followed the production process of this car.

On the technical aspect, the ocean will be equipped with lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries on the Sport trim, while the extreme and ultra-trims will run on nickel manganese cobalt (NMC) batteries, but the capacity is still to be disclosed. The car will also support fast charging that can reach 250kw, with other new EV technologies like the vehicle-to-load (V2L) functionality that will enable the car owner to charge their home in case of emergency and charge other EVs for example.

What distinguishes the Ocean from other high-end EVs is the power glass roof, which is a layer of solar panels available on the Extreme option, the company claims that it can add 1.500 to 2.000 miles of extra range per year, depending on the exposure time to sun rays of course.

If you fell in love with this car the same way we did, you can choose from three available offers. The ocean one sold at $37,499, the ocean ultra at $49.999 and last but not least the ocean extreme maxing at $68.999, with the range and power increasing with every trim.

Sun rays maybe beneficial for the ocean, providing it with extra power and range, but it’s a whole difference story with other cars, UV rays are extremely harmful to your car, with long exposure time to sun light, your car will never be shining again as it used to, even on the interior, your dashboard and seat condition will deteriorate faster, leaving them vulnerable to irreparable damage.
