Polestar 6 will be offered range powertrain options
The O2 will soon become a reality, in the form of the production roadster Polestar 6, a car that will come in a variety of powertrain options.
The Polestar 6 will debut in 2026 and is expected to represent the image of the rising electric car producer. Polestar is trying to attract more and more customers by offering various powertrains for the upcoming Polestar 6 at different prices instead of the sole halo 872 bhp dual-motor trim, priced at €200,000.
Thomas Ingenlath Polestar's boss recently announced that most of the first 500 launch cars are already sold, bolstering the company’s confidence in their car, and pushing them toward offering more options on this special Polestar 6.
The difference between this new model and the previous ones is that the Polestar 6 will be the first real mass-produced car in the company’s history. For example, the Polestar 1 was limited to three production runs with 500 units each and it was pretty much handmade. “This car [the Polestar 6] is part of the factory setup, it is definitely something that we rather think of producing not hundreds of cars per year, but thousands.” said the boss.
The huge production prospects make the presence of different powertrain offerings even more important, proposing different price choices for the customers. However, the high profile of the car should be maintained. Thomas Ingenlath again said it in the best way possible, “Look at the horsepower you’re getting, what momentum... I mean, why should we give away the car for free?”
And the numbers are indeed impressive, with 800-volt architecture, dual motors, and 872bhp. The bonded aluminum platform is capable of going from 0 to 62 mph in 3.2s. So it’s only logical to have an expensive car, a cheaper roadster requires a cheaper technology, which is not the case with polestar’s new roadster.
The engine sounds constitute a great part of a roadster experience, and new electric ones are deprived of the music car lovers admire. Thomas Ingenlath was asked about the possibility of having a special soundtrack on the Polestar 6. He said that the company is currently working on that, but it won't be like any other roadster we’re familiar with: “I would support the thought that there has to be some audible feedback on you accelerating and pushing the power. We are actually working on that with our electric engines, really tuning the sound in order to give you that feedback.”
There’s no intention to ‘disturb’ people, however, and he spoke of having to ‘readjust’ the scale of what you hear in a roadster. “When you’re used to really loud noise, then you’re suddenly on that level.
“But when you tune it down, the world becomes a more quiet place, then you hear things that you didn’t hear before.
Despite all the technological advances that the Polestar 6 is offering, it’s still like all other convertibles, exposed to all kinds of weather conditions and environmental elements.
