Dodge is drawing attention at SEMA to the upcoming next-generation EV muscle cars, through the exposition of a repainted Charger Daytona SRT Concept.
Buyers are understandably wary about the idea of electric muscle cars because they are kind of two contradictory forms of vehicles. Dodge entered this year's SEMA with the declared goal of proving everyone wrong. And showing the world that EV muscle cars are a worthy modern successor of the iconic gas monsters that everyone loves.
Dodge demonstrated some of the technical features that will start appearing on its cars starting in 2024. This included the surprising announcement that future buyers will have the chance to choose from 9 different power outputs. Dodge cars will also have a “crystal” key that plugs into the dash, similar to that of a Bugatti Chiron.
About the different power options, Dodge specified that its 400-volt models will have either 455 hp or 590 hp as standard. Both can then be upgraded to an eStage 1 or eStage 2 Dodge Direction Connection setup.
With The eStage 1, the 455 hp model will get up to 495 hp while the 590 hp car will be boosted to 630 hp. eStage two is more powerful, it will offer a maximum output of 535 hp to the 455 hp car, and 670 hp to the 590 hp one. Oof! That was a lot of numbers!
But even with a maximum output of 670 hp, the future electric models are still no match for the potent 807 hp gas-powered Hellcat motor. Dodge's response to that is the promised all-wheel drive 800-volt SRT Banshee powertrain package. The brand-new electric powertrain will come in three power options, the details of which are still undisclosed until now.
Back at the exhibition, Dodge put on display an SRT with punchy tri-coat Stryker Red paint and lightweight 18-inch carbon-fiber wheels, and that was enough to catch the public's attention. But for those who have a different taste, the brand has already announced nine other paint options combined with its nine different wheel designs.[i]
