The new ID 4

Volkswagen ID 4 Cheaper Smaller Battery

A new version of the ID4 is around the corner, Volkswagen is aiming this time for customers who are restrained by a limited budget.

The new ID 4 was confirmed last Monday, it will remain an electric crossover as usual, but Volkswagen didn’t disclose any specific details yet. However, the company is putting huge hopes on this new model year to keep the car competitive in the rapidly growing EV market.

With the reasonable price we should expect a drop in the overall performance, the new ID4 will be powered by a 62-kilowatt-hour battery, a radical change from the current EV's 82-kWh pack. The car will also run on a single motor powering the rear wheels only, obviously this setup will limit the car’s range and power when compared to the current ID4 which currently has 275 miles EPA.

The new battery pack and the local production are the two major factors contributing to the price drop, the new ID4 is expected to be in the range of $30,000 to $40,000. Volkswagen emphasized that the new ID4 will be a local car, with the final assembly done in the company’s plant in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
