Voltas Electric Trucks Are Coming Soon To The Us
U.S. consumers may have a new choice in heavy-duty trucks soon — this time, electric and with an air of green around them. In a press release, the electrified vehicle maker Volta announced that its first delivery of electric trucks to the US would happen by 2023. According to Volta’s press release, a fleet of 100 trucks will be assembled in North America, following “extensive testing of product performance and customer satisfaction…”[i]
Volta will establish a network of service and repair facilities in addition to third-party coverage. This will allow the company to optimize its global reach while also providing end-to-end services for its customers.
A Class 7 truck from the Volta Zero series will spearhead the company's 100% battery-electric commercial vehicle launch in North America. The Volta Zero was created with the goal of creating a medium-duty urban delivery vehicle. This zero-emission vehicle combines an electric motor, gearbox, and axle into a single unit that fits within the chassis rails where High-voltage batteries are housed.
By mid-2023, following the introduction in Los Angeles, the company will introduce the pilot fleet in more locations. Meanwhile, Volta is in the process of testing its first prototype trucks in Europe. The all-new Volta FL Electric truck is already creating waves in Europe; as a result, the company will produce over 1,500 full-electric Class 7 trucks for European clients before introducing them in North America.
“Since the launch of Volta Trucks in 2019 and the reveal of the Volta Zero in September 2020, we have used London, Paris, and other European launch cities, where fleets are increasingly converting to electric, to prove that our concepts align with customers’ needs. With more than 6,000 vehicle pre-orders in hand, from some of Europe’s largest fleet operators, it is time to expand our geographic horizons and look toward the significant market opportunity in North America.” Carl-Magnus Norden, Founder of Volta Trucks, stated.
