Despite the Volkswagen Group's ongoing commitment to electric vehicles, today the automaker introduced a new gasoline engine.
The new unit is called the 1.5 TSI evo2 and features a turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder that produces 150 hp (110 kW).
The new 1.5 TSI Evo2 is a successor to the legendary 1.5 TSI and has been significantly upgraded with the inclusion of a three-way catalytic converter and petrol particulate filter in a single emission control module close to the engine.
VW is expanding its 1.5 TSI Evo2 engine in its T-Roc and T-Roc Convertible models with 150 horsepower, but it's not just the power that will help lift the car's performance.
The new engine will be added to other models, including plug-in hybrid models with a combined output of 272 hp.
The automaker expects electric vehicles to account for more than 70 percent of all global car sales by the end of this decade. Meanwhile, the conversion to electric will be limited to passenger cars, rather than large-format commercial vehicles. Due to this fact, the ICEs will be updated beyond Euro 7 standards to keep selling cars in countries where ICEs remain popular.
